[Music] Cake - Comfort Eagle
I had a bit from this song stuck in my head for a while today:
"Doesn't matter if you're skinny/Doesn't matter if you're fat/You can dress up like a sultan in your onion-head hat."
Now I want a hat like that. Dammit.
Anyhow, election stuff. To quote either the Daily Show or the Colbert Report (I suddenly cannot remember which), if the Democrats couldn't pull off a win in this election, then they probably "couldn't have gotten fucked in a whorehouse with a fistful of twenties." A good line. Other than that, I don't really care. Rick Perry is governor again, even though he didn't even make 40%. Kinda hoped that Kinky Friedman would've fared better, but my hopes really weren't that high.
I've been slowly accruing more jobs at work. At the moment, if there's something kinda technical and they want a person to be trained as a backup, they give it to me. They range from simple (changing .wav files into mp3s and putting them on the website), to medium (potentially editing a show down for a later rebroadcast) to a bit more difficult (learning to troubleshoot the station's new on-air automation system). Currently reading through a 150-page manual on that last one. And these are on top of the jobs I already have (movie screenings/promotions guy, special events guy, media sponsorship guy, assistant web guy, assistant logs/Wicks guy, backup for the audio engineers guy, etc.). I jokingly said that if I file a news story as a reporter, go on the air or perform transmitter maintenance, I'll have pretty much done every job at the station (except for management). Didn't expect it to be coming true. I'm not complaining either, since they've told me that the more jobs they give me, the more important I will be, and thus it will be easier to plead my case to UH in order to create a new full-time position for me. Bureaucratic red-tape and all that rot. So yeah, the last month or so has really flown by because I've actually been busy at work. It's weird.
On a side note, I'm also helping our resident movie person do DVD reviews for the KUHF website on the side. My first review was the DVD of Cars, which wasn't Pixar's best, but it was charming enough. Read it here.
Only problem is that I have three events over the next two weekends. First is the Woodlands Children's Festival, which is ever so much fun. God help us if they stick us next to the Houston Symphony's "Instrument Petting Zoo." Imagine this: CLANG CLANG HONK HONK CLANG HONK CLANG!!!!" Now multiply it by hundreds of children over the course of 7 hours. Ugh. Upside? We're bringing sandwiches, and I only have to work on Saturday. Nosirree, no more two day festivals for me. The next weekend, we have a festival downtown and Bayou Bend. The festival (of which I only have to work a 5 hour shift) sounds interesting at least, being a street art festival (literally, art on the street), but for some reason we keep getting stuck over in the kids' section. Dunno why, because we don't even carry any children's programming on-air. But whatever. As for Bayou Bend, here's hoping it doesn't get rained out for a third month in a row. It can be boring enough when it's sunny outside, but having to sit inside and watch no one show up is a pain in the ass.
Okay, so it actually won't be as bad as I thought it would be. Oh, and Thanksgiving is coming up soon, so that's cool. Big meal with family FTW! Two weeks of turkey leftovers for teh loss.
I've been playing some games recently. Started playing Kingdom Hearts a couple of days ago. I keep hearing about how good the second one is, and I wanted to play the first before trying the second, plus I found it for cheap at Circuit City, so there you are. The story is kinda "Final Fantasy meets Disney in a 'you-got-chocolate-in-my-peanut-butter' way." The battles aren't bad, but I could see them getting tedious without the addition of new moves, but I think those will come with time.
Also, I got to try out two new games earlier. The first? Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Imagine X-Men Legends, but on 'roids. The developers have really polished the X-ML formula, and it's a lot of fun. Still gotta grab a friend to have the best time with it. An aside: Iron Man kicks ass.
The second game? Guitar Hero 2. Oh. Em. Gee. I'm gonna have to pick this one up. I initially resisted the concept, thinking it was "silly" and that having to pony up for a new controller was "dumb." Oh, how I wish I could go back and offer this poor wastrel succor! I finally got to try it out at GameStop earlier, and shit, it's addictive. And that's after only playing one song. It takes a bit to get used to the controller, but it's hell of fun once you have. I know I looked like a complete dork, but I honestly don't care. Also: it has "Trogdor" in the setlist. Automatic bonus points. Now to just find $70 to drop on the game and the controller.
Here's a site with a good idea involving Wikipedia: Every Topic in the Universe Except Chickens dot Com. Dudes and ladies all know about chickens anyway.
Finally, neat stuff from YouTube: a time-lapse video of neat artworks being made and destroyed over the course a week, and "Who's on First?" (for those "backwards Midwesterners" who haven't heard of Abbot and Costello).

Borrowed Marvel for Ps2: it sucked. I'll assume you played it on the 360, by boss did and loved it.
Kingdom hearts I: it doesn't get better. I disliked that game, but think the story is damn near good enough to make up for the gameplay.
Advice for festivals: buy a flask.

Onion hat. Not what you intended but google search gives amusing answers.
Yeah, I've been playing Marvel for the 360. Didn't know if it would make that big of a difference, but I have liked it.
I haven't played KH in a while, but I thought that I might chip away at it some. The story is pretty good, though.
As for the flask idea, a.) I'd probably slip up and get fired for it, and b.) it doesn't matter as much since I'm not going to have to stay at the festivals as long anymore. Yay for dividing shifts.
Heh, onion hat. Nice.
